Premier Sarawak Announces Plans For Housing Development In Bintulu


BINTULU, 5 Mar - Premier Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, revealed during a board meeting of the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) that 300 acres of land at Sungai Plan have been identified for the development of residential properties.

"This initiative aims to provide housing options for local residents, as well as to accommodate workers," said Premier Abang Abdul Rahman during his speech at the Launching of the Sg Plan Recovery Project, CSR NREB & MLNG at Margherita Plaza.

Highlighting the importance of proper planning, Premier Abang Abdul Rahman emphasized the need for a comprehensive masterplan to ensure minimal impact on the environment and to mitigate the proliferation of informal settlements.

"We have various housing models available, including those designed for workers and others for local buyers, equipped with comprehensive infrastructure and waste management facilities," he added.

Premier Abang Abdul Rahman also extended an invitation to PETRONAS and other companies interested in developing housing for their workers, offering land for joint ventures with the Sarawak government.

"We envision extending the development beyond Bintulu, from Sebauh to Tatau, leveraging our ample land resources to alleviate property prices," he stated, underscoring the importance of addressing supply and demand dynamics to stabilize housing costs.

Concluding his remarks, Premier Abang Abdul Rahman affirmed his commitment to sustainable development, ensuring access to affordable housing and fostering prosperity for all residents.

"We have the economic foundation; it's a matter of willpower. Extending development efforts will enable us to control prices and promote peace and prosperity for our people," he concluded.

Also present were, Secretary of the Sarawak Government Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Haji Len Talif Salleh, Senior Vice President, Malaysia Asset, Business Support, PETRONAS Puan Hasliza Othman, Deputy Chairman, Bintulu Development Authority Dato Haidar Khan Asghar Khan, Mr. Mohamed Syazwan Abdullah @ Laga Jenggi and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia LNG Group.
